We want to give you control over your workflow and productivity. In your Fastmail account, you'll find comprehensive settings designed to help you set up, stay secure, and get organized.
How to find Settings
You can open the settings for your account by clicking the main menu in the upper left corner of your Fastmail screen, then clicking Settings. The keyboard shortcut for this is Shift+G
, then S
.
You can also open Settings by clicking your Quick Settings menu, then clicking View all settings.
Quick Settings
Quick Settings allows you to easily view and edit some of our most commonly used settings, without leaving the Fastmail screen you're already looking at.
From the Quick Settings menu, you can easily choose a new theme, switch between light mode and dark mode, and change your text size. Quick Settings will also offer options related to the Fastmail screen you're viewing:
- Mail: Generate a new Masked Email address, show or hide your reading pane, switch between Folders and Labels, and more.
- Contacts: Choose to auto-save contacts, or choose to show public images of senders from external services like Gravatar.
- Calendar: Set default reminders for events, change how invitations are handled, or turn notifications for calendar alerts on and off.
In our web interface, you can access Quick Settings by clicking the gear icon on the right-hand side of the top toolbar, or by using the keyboard shortcut q
.
In our mobile app, you can access Quick Settings by tapping the three dots in the upper right-hand side of the screen, then tapping Quick settings....
Navigating Settings
Settings are divided into three sections:
- Set Up: Contains everything you need to manage your account.
- Stay Secure: Contains options that give you control over your privacy, security, and data.
- Get Organized: Contains preferences and tools to help you set up a workflow you love.
You can collapse a section by hovering near the section title, then clicking Hide.
When you have Settings open, you can search for a settings screen by clicking the Search Settings bar at the top, then entering keywords. Potential matches will appear as results. Click a result to jump to that screen. If you don't see what you're looking for, you can click Search the Fastmail Help Center for ____. This will open a link showing Fastmail help pages that match your keywords.
Below, you'll find an overview of each Settings screen, and what you can do from each screen.
Set Up
Billing & Plan
At Settings → Billing & Plan, you can submit payment for your account, view or change details related to your account's billing/renewal, and change your subscription plan or length.
If you are not an admin for your Fastmail account, this screen may not appear in your settings. More information can be found at our Payments help page.
Users & Sharing
At Settings → Users & Sharing, you can create or edit users in your account, manage their email addresses, set up sharing and email retention, and view your team's login log.
If you are not an admin for your Fastmail account, this screen may not appear in your settings.
My email addresses
At Settings → My email addresses, you can view and edit all of the email addresses you use.

Domains
At Settings → Domains, you can add a custom domain that you already own, purchase a domain through us, and check that your domain's DNS has been set up correctly. If your domain's nameservers are pointing to Fastmail, you can also make DNS changes here.

Calendars
At Settings → Calendars, you can control settings related to managing your calendars.
In the My calendars tab, you can create, edit, and share calendars, add or subscribe to external calendars, or upload .ics files.
In the Calendar groups tab, you can create and manage your calendar groups.
In the Calendar options tab, you can set preferences for how your calendars are displayed, set default reminders for your events, and set preferences for how you want invitations to be handled.

Signatures & Compose
At Settings → Signatures & Compose, you can control settings related to how your sent messages look to recipients.
In the Signatures tab, you can edit the signature for any of your aliases. Aliases without signatures are in a separate list at the end of the page, so you can easily see which of your aliases have signatures set up. More information can be found at our How to create a signature help page.
In the Compose options tab, you can set preferences for when you compose a message, such as editing the default formatting or enabling Undo send. You can also set preferences for when you reply to or forward a message.
Migration
At Settings → Migration, you can import data, export data, set up external email addresses in your Fastmail account, and learn how to set up Fastmail in third-party apps or email clients.
In the Import tab, you can use our importer to import mail, calendars, and contacts. If you have other non-Fastmail email addresses that you wish to continue using, you can set up mail fetch and sending, allowing you to continue to receive mail and send mail using that address.
In the Export tab, you can export mail, contacts, and calendars. You can also download a list of all of your email addresses.
In the Apps & Setup guides tab, you can find setup guides to walk you through setting up your Fastmail account in popular third-party email clients and apps, such as Android, Mac Mail, Outlook, and Thunderbird.
Stay Secure
Privacy & Security
At Settings → Privacy & Security, you can find settings related to your account's privacy and security.
You can change your password, set recovery options, set up 2FA, or set up passkeys. You can also review your logged in sessions or login log. From this tab, you can also choose how to handle remote images, and
In the Connected apps & API tokens section, you can create and manage app passwords or API tokens so that you can access your Fastmail account through third-party email apps or clients.
In the Newsletter section, you can choose to opt in or out of the Fastmail newsletter.
Restore data
At Settings → Restore data, you can use our restore tool to restore items that have been deleted. You can restore messages, drafts, contacts, calendar events, and notes that have been deleted in the past 7 days, or you can revert changes made to your contacts, calendars, or notes within the past 7 days.

Masked Email
At Settings → Masked Email, you can create and manage your Masked Email addresses, and connect your Fastmail account to 1Password.

Get Organized
Display options
At Settings → Display options, you can set the language and time format for your account, make changes to your account's theme and appearance, control accessibility preferences such as text size and font, and choose options related to how mail is displayed in your account, including how remote images are handled.
Folders or Labels
The Settings → Folders or Settings → Labels screen will be displayed according to whether you have Folders or Labels set for your account. (Folders are the default.)
From this screen, you can create new folders/labels, edit settings for your folders/labels, and review how much storage space each of your folders/labels is occupying. You can also switch between folders and labels from this page.

Mail rules
At Settings → Mail rules, you can create and edit rules for organizing your incoming mail, as well as edit custom Sieve code, import rules from Gmail or another Fastmail account, and export your rules as JSON files.
In the Blocked senders tab, you can review and manage your Blocked senders list.
In the Spam protection tab, you can control settings related to how your account handles spam. More information can be found at our Spam filtering help page.
Notifications
At Settings → Notifications, you can set desktop notifications for new messages and upcoming calendar events.

Custom swipes
At Settings → Custom swipes, you can set custom actions to help you quickly organize mail while using the mobile app.

At Settings → Vacation response, you can set up a vacation response or autoreply for any of your aliases.
